Amazon.ca is a website in which you can shop to your heart's content, without leaving your house. But if that was the only thing you could do on it, it would not be considered a Web 2.0 tool. The reason this website has been branded with the name Web 2.0, is because there is a place on the web page that allows you to rate the product and write a review. This could be very helpful when debating whether or not you are going to purchase the product. Though some of the reviews you may not agree with. For instance, I was looking at some movies that I own or have watched and I disagreed with the reviews posted. If I took the time I could have written my own review, on the very same product. At the top of the review page they will put a review that is for the product and a review that is against it. So you can get an idea of what people think without scrolling down the page. It being the first time I used this website I thought that the reviews may turn out to be helpful, though speaking with a friend who has used amazon.ca, and has purchased products off of amazon. She thought the reviews were useless. I guess it would have to depend on the person involved. I feel that it would be helpful if you have never seen the product in your life. Take for example a book, or DVD, if you have never had the opportunity to read the back an decide if it was the right thing for you. The reviews in that case would be very helpful. Hurrah for the reviews!! They make Amazon.ca qualified to be a Web 2.0.

ReplyDeleteNicely done! This review gives the reader a good understanding of the purpose of the website, and it also gives them an explanation on why Amazon is considered a Web 2.0 tool.
